Musical-Activist Quits His Daily Latte Due to Starbucks Using Lobbyists to Overturn GMO-Labeling Law

NOV 23, 2014 – The European Union strictly monitors “new food” coming into their system, and they already require food manufacturers to label their food products as to whether they use GMO (Genetically Modified Organism Frankenfood). Here in the US, Vermont passed a law requiring food companies to tell us what GMO poisons they are putting in our food, and of course Monsanto, Green Mountain Coffee, Starbucks, and the billion-dollar food factories got angry and told their lawyer lobbyists (Grocery Manufacturers Association) to sue Vermont and get the law changed. Monsanto, Green Mountain Coffee and Starbucks are insulting our intelligence and saying the are “not part of the lawsuit”, but the lobbyists get their money and direction from these companies, so in essence the Grocery Manufacturer’s Association IS Starbucks, Monsanto, General Mills, Kellogs, etc. and represent their interests…NOT YOURS.

When citizens heard of this outrage, they formed a petition on SumOfUs calling for Starbucks and Green Mountain Coffee to withdraw from their membership of the lobbyist group Grocery Manufacturers Association. Neil Young also joined the petition and a boycott of Starbucks saying, “I used to line up and get my latte every day, but yesterday was my last one. Starbucks has teamed with Monsanto to sue Vermont, and to stop accurate food labeling. Tell Starbucks to withdraw support for the lawsuit — we have a right to know what we put in our mouths.”

We indeed have a right to know what our food is, and what is in our food. Sign the SumOfUs Petition HERE, and BOYCOTT STARBUCKS!! Try supporting a local coffee shop instead, or make it yourself at home for 20% of the cost. They now make cappuccino milk frothers for $40, and expresso/latte machines for under $100 now. Tell your state and federal senators and representatives you want your food labeled as to whether it contains GMO ingredients or not. It’s not nice to fool with Mother Nature! (photo credit: Per Ole Hagen/Andy Roo/CC) Read more on Money.CNN.com here.
